Looking ahead ...
Hello LBCLBC!
I would like to tell you a little something I just discovered about our book for January.
The book is written by Russ Ramsey and Andrew Peterson and is entitled, Behold the Lamb of God". This selection can be read as an ordinary book, however it is written as an advent narrative. I just wanted to pass this along in case you might want to read it during the days before Christmas. There are 25 chapters and they do not appear to be too long. We are hoping to read it together as a family ... maybe at meal time? Anyway, I think the book will be a blessing when ever you have a chance to read it!

Discussion Questions for "Bo's Cafe"
Since we tend to skip around in our discussions and since I randomly come up with the questions and can't seem to put them in any order that makes sense, I am not numbering them this time!!!
Did this book seem realistic to you?
Was it hard for you, as a female, to read a book that was mostly about a man and his point of view?
Do you agree that church people don't open up to each other about their real selves?
Do you think the book supported going to church or not?
Have you ever been with a group of people like at Bo's Cafe?
How would you have reacted to Steven's anger if you were his wife? How about when he said he had really changed? Would you have given him another chance?
Would you be comfortable with a guy like Andy?
Who was your favorite character?
Do you think the Gospel was accurately presented in this book?
Would you recommend this book to a non-Christian? A Christian?
What did you think of Steven's relationship with his daughter?
On pgs. 93 and 94, Andy says, "I have come to believe there are no together people, just those who dress better than others......". Do you agree?

One blogger I read said, "Bo's Cafe will leave you saying "Wow!" after you finish the final page. It is a book that should be passed around and talked about just as much as "The Shack" has been.". For those of you who have read "The Shack", would you agree?

We Untangled Christmas!!!!
Last night was so much fun and a great discussion!! Thank you EVERYONE for your input!! I'm so mad, though......today....one day too late, I found the striped knee socks I wanted to wear last night! I will post a picture, if I can figure out how to do it!!! "Bo's Cafe" coming up!!!

3. Was there at least one tip or idea that you found helpful? What was it? Do you plan to implement. the idea this upcoming Christmas season?
4. What "feelings" did reading about the holidays evoke in you? Do you have good memories of Christmas, or not so good?

1. What did you think of the "Prudence" story at the beginning of each chapter?
2. Did you make any connections with the donkey or any other characters in that story to any of the characters in the "real" story?
3. Do you believe in love at first sight?
4. Which of the love at first sight relationships do you think had the best chance of surviving? Liv and Jared, Rand and Shelby, or Georgia and Dennis? Why?
5. Anything from the Bible come to mind when "explaining" what she claimed to be a "birthday curse"?
6. Did you enjoy reading this book? Find it an easy read?
7. I remember reading, at some point, someone said, "Sometimes we are so busy following what we think are signs, that we forget to go to God and ask for His direction." Do you agree with that? Have you ever experienced that yourself? Explain.
8. Do you think you would have grown to love Missy Boofer as Liv did, or would she just have been an annoyance for you?

Persuasion Discussion
Great discussion last night! We obviously have some real Jane Austen fans and obviously have some who are not fans!!!! Thanks to everyone! Thanks to our hostess, Penny...those who brought food....and to Jenn for the cool book list for this year! Again, I apologize for my "before reading the book in full" comments. I promise to wait until our discussion time to comment on future books. AND, by the way, I ended up liking Persuasion! I learned a lot by taking the time to read and study a little more difficult style of writing! That's part of what book club is about.....it stretches us sometimes! Looking forward to "The Big 5-Oh"! Hope to see everyone at Emily's.

"Persuasion" Discussion Questions
1. Did you like "Persuasion"? Did you like the book or the movie better?
2. Did you find the book hard to read?
3. What would you say is the significance of the title "Persuasion". How are the
novel's characters positively and negatively affected by persuasion in the story?
4. Who was your favorite character?
5. One website I found said the genre of "Persuasion" was: "Novel of manners.
This type of novel is not about the education or growth of one particular individual
but instead is a story of how a few central characters interact within society, navigating
the rules and structures which govern their lives.". Would you agree with that?
6. Do you find it amazing that girls from the same family can be so different? What
affect do you think the obvious partiality had on each girl?
7. Can you imagine waiting for someone for 8 years like Anne and Captain Wentworth?
8. I liked reading about the scenery, towns, inns, etc. Were you able to picture where
they were when they went for walks, ate dinners together, etc? Was the scenery in
the movie like you imagined as you read the book?

Persuasion Movie Night
Hey LBC ladies! Movie night is fast approaching! We are still meeting at Amanda's but the time has changed. We will meet at 8:00 p.m. Due to Amanda's schedule, this time works better! Be prompt and bring whatever you want to snack on while watching Persuasion. We will start the movie no later than 8:15 so no one will be out too late!

Allergic to Jane Austin
I think I have a mental block when it comes to Jane Austin!...(is it Austin or Austen?) I am really having trouble getting into Persuasion! I think I'm going to have to get the actual book....it's just not working on my iPad!!! Part of the problem is that Hunger Games has my attention right now......almost finished with book 2, so maybe after book 3, I can get into the "classic".

By the way
The month attached to each book is the month we meet and discuss that book. The first book, "The Big 5-Oh" for example will be assigned at our first meeting in August. Then we will discuss it in September and then be assigned the next book to discuss in October. Etc., etc., etc. Remember, we meet the 4 th Tuesday of each month!

New venture!
Hello fellow readers!!! I cannot believe that I figured out how to do this! I hope this works well for us and becomes a fun way to communicate about book club!
I am trying to figure out how you can each be notified when I post something and also how to post pictures. That way everyone can stay up to date even if you miss a monthly meeting.
